I've worked my butt off the last six and 1/2months and I finally finished my internship on Sunday. I worked 480 hours for free at the hospital. I havent had a weekend off in over 2 months but thats ok cuz my workin' for free days are over!!! Next week I will officially be a Banner employee. I will still be working my regular job and you are probably thinking I am crazy because..why work now that my internship is over...well hospital social work positions are very hard to come by and they had an open position for a weekend social worker so I jumped at the opportunity. Whats cool is that they are willing to hire me without my masters and I didnt have to go through the interview process...score! I am only required to work 2 weekend days per month but the money is good so I am going to try to work as much as I can. I figure I'm used to working a ton- so why not- especially since I am getting paid! My next goal is to find a full time job as a hospital social worker once I have my masters degree....but I still have to pass that darn test in March :)

CONGRATS Tia! What exactly does a hospital social worker do, sounds like a great job, and someday I want to finish my degree in social work. Great dedication...YEAH!

Kenyon- At the hospital I meet with patients and do an assessment to find out their needs, resources and support systems. I help patients get set up with the things they need when they gohome such as walkers, at home nurse etc. I work with women who just had their babies to make sure they have all the resources they need. I deal with CPS.I also help patients in the ER who are in crisis (family member passed away or had something seious happen to them, drug/alcohol overdose, victims of domestic violence, need placement to nursing home or assisted living) etc. I really enjoy it!! If you want to know more about the social work field I would be more than happy to help ya or answer any questions for ya :)
